What is Plug & Charge?
Plug & Charge is a new feature that allows you to seamlessly plug in and charge your Polestar 3 without starting the session with a charging card or app. Authentication and payment happen automatically in the background, while you retain access to all charging details in your app.

Which Polestar models support Plug & Charge?
Currently, Plug & Charge is available for all Polestar 3 cars.
Which charging operators support Plug & Charge?
Operators supporting Plug & Charge include IONITY, ChargePoint Austria, MER, Aral, Free To X, and others. You can filter Plug & Charge compatible chargers using your Polestar Charge app.
Setup and Usage
How do I set up Plug & Charge?
Before being able to just plug in your Polestar 3 for instant charging, you’ll need to activate Plug & Charge in both your car's UI and the Polestar Charge app. Here’s how it’s done:

- Go to Charge → Advanced → Plug & Charge
- Turn on Plug & Charge and copy your car’s Plug & Charge ID number
- Click on the Connect with Polestar Charge app button

- Go to the Account tab and click on Plug & Charge
- Enter your car’s Plug & Charge ID number
- Choose your preferred payment method
- Use the map settings to filter by chargers that support Plug & Charge
How do I use Plug & Charge?
Once set up, simply plug your Polestar 3 into a compatible charger. Authentication and payment will happen automatically in the background.
How do I find compatible chargers?
Use the map settings of your Polestar Charge app to find chargers compatible with Plug & Charge:
- Click on the settings icon in the bottom left corner of the screen
- Under the Start Charging menu, you can choose how you want to charge your car
- Select Plug & Charge, deselect App and Charging card to see only chargers that support Plug & Charge
- Click on the Apply changes button to save your settings
Can I still see my charging details when using Plug & Charge?
Yes, you still have access to all charging details in your Polestar Charge app.
Troubleshooting
What should I do if Plug & Charge isn't working?

Ensure you're at a Plug & Charge compatible charger
- Check that your Polestar Charge app is up to date
- Verify your payment method is valid and connected to your car's Plug & Charge ID number
- If issues persist, try using your charging card or starting a session via the app
- Contact Polestar Charge support if problems continue
Other issues
Can I still charge without using Plug & Charge?
Yes. At charging locations that don’t support Plug & Charge, you’ll still need to start the charging session with your charging card or app. If you want to use them at Plug & Charge locations, switch off Plug & Charge in your Polestar Charge app.
How do I switch off Plug & Charge in the Polestar Charge?
- Go to the Account tab and click on Plug & Charge
- Click on the Switch off Plug & Charge button at the bottom of the page
- Click on the Switch off button to confirm
However, your Plug & Charge contract ID is still saved. If you want to continue using Plug & Charge, you can easily switch it back on.
I am selling my car. What should I do about Plug & Charge?
To make sure the new owner of your car won’t be able to charge using your account, you’ll need to disconnect your car from the Polestar Charge app.
- Go to the Account tab and click on My car under the My details section
- Delete your car from the My car section to disconnect it from your account
You can also remove the contract certificate associated with your Polestar Charge account. Go to your car's settings and press the Delete button under Charging account.
