What changed with pricing in Germany?
Starting November 19, 2025, we removed the flat rate pricing model in Germany. You now see exact prices for each charger in the Plugsurfing app.
Previously, we grouped similarly priced charge point operators into pricing tiers. Now you see what each operator actually charges at each specific charger.
Why did Plugsurfing remove the flat rate?
The flat rate system was too rigid. Operators charging different amounts ended up in the same pricing tier, so drivers couldn't see which ones offered better value.
For example, one operator might charge 52 cents per kWh and another 58 cents, but both appeared in the same tier. Small price differences were invisible.
The new system gives operators the flexibility to price competitively and run promotions. Drivers can now compare prices and find charging options matching their budget.
How does the new pricing work?
The price you see in the app is what that specific charger costs. Different chargers at the same location can have different prices (for example, a 22kW AC charger might cost less than a 200kW DC charger at the same site).
You still see prices before you start charging. The difference is that pricing now reflects what each operator actually charges, instead of averaged tiers.
How do I find affordable charging?
Use the price filter in your Plugsurfing app to set your maximum budget per kWh. Only chargers within your price range will appear on the map.
You can also add operators with competitive pricing to your selected operators list. This makes it easier to find their chargers when you're planning your route.
Do I need to do anything?
No. The change happens automatically in your Plugsurfing app and all charging solutions we power, starting November 19, 2025.
You'll see charger-based pricing instead of flat rate tiers. Everything else works the same way - find a charger, see the price, and charge.
