Polestar offers roaming on Tesla's network through its own charging solution, Polestar Charge, which is powered by Plugsurfing. You’ll now see almost 900 European Tesla charging locations in your Polestar Charge app.
Tesla’s charging network is also part of our Polestar Charge subscription. For 13.99€ a month, you’ll get a 30% discount from Polestar when charging at Tesla and five other fast charging networks. Check out the details in the Subscriptions section of your Polestar Charge app.
How to set it up
We’re working hard to bring the entire Tesla + Polestar charging experience into your Polestar Charge app. For now, you’ll need to use both the Tesla app and the Polestar Charge app to access Tesla Superchargers. Here’s how it works:
Update your Polestar Charge app
To access the Tesla Superchargers, your Polestar Charge app should be updated to at least version 8.10.0. If your phone hasn’t updated the app automatically, download the latest version in Google Play or App Store.
Find a Tesla charger on your Polestar Charge map
- Open the charger details screen
- Click on Details in the grey box saying To charge, connect your account with Tesla’s app
- Copy the code (a virtual charging card number). It is not the code from your physical RFID card.
Set up the Tesla app
- Download and install the Tesla app from the App Store or Google Play
- Create a Tesla account and sign in
- Click on your profile icon on the top right-hand corner
- Click on Account
- Click on Wallet
- Click on Add Charging Card
- Enter your First & Last Name
- Enter the code from your Polestar Charge app to the field Charging card number
- IMPORTANT: Enter your Billing address
- Click on Submit
How to charge in the Tesla app
- Find your selected charger in the Tesla app
- Launch a charging session in the Tesla app
- Your receipt will appear on the Activity section of your Polestar Charge app
NOTE: You’ll only see the price in the Polestar Charge app, not the Tesla app. To make sure there are enough chargers to go around, Tesla applies an Idle fee. You’ll find the pricing breakdown and more information about the idle fee in the Polestar Charge app.
Why can't I see the available chargers in the app?
Unfortunately, Tesla doesn't currently show us which chargers are available and which are not. We are working on a fix, but it may take a while to implement.
In the meantime, you can check the Tesla app to see which chargers are available.
Why is Tesla not registering my subscription discount?
Some drivers have encountered an issue where the Tesla app has charged the charging session to the Tesla app instead of using the virtual charging card of the Polestar Charge app. As a result, these drivers have paid the standard Tesla rate instead of the Polestar Charge subscription rate.
To fix this issue, you'll first need to remove your card from the Tesla app, and then add it again. Here's a step-by-step walkthrough:
Remove card
In the Tesla app, go to:
- Menu (top right of the home screen)
- Account (name/email)
- Wallet
- Charge card (Polestar)
- "Remove"
Add card
- Menu (top right of the home screen)
- Charging
- Manage Payment
- Add payment method
- Add charging card
- Select relevant brand
- Type in name and number
